Mamie Marie Shelton

Mamie Marie Shelton, 87, died at 7:37 p.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home after a period of declining health.

She was born in Jerseyville on Jan. 16, 1928, and was the daughter of the late Estel & Mildred (Devening) Fraley.

Mamie graduated from Jersey Township High School, and married Ralph Donald Shelton on Oct. 6, 1948 at the First United Methodist Church in Jerseyville.  Together they farmed and raised their family of six children, instilling their love for the Lord, and dedication for hard work until his untimely death on May 8, 2003.

After her children were born, Mamie went back to school, and earned her BS in Education from SIU-E, working for the Jersey Community School District #100, and serving as a teacher for the Grafton Christian Academy and State Street Baptist Church Academy in Jerseyville.

Surviving are her two daughters, Ann Price of Carrollton and Alisa Hill of Maryland Heights, Mo.; four sons & daughters in law, Paul & Debora Shelton of Worden, David & Missy Shelton of Carlinville, Russell & Sandra Shelton of Fieldon, and John & Melody Shelton of Fieldon; 19 Grandchildren; 13 Great Grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; a sister, LilaVanausdoll of Eldred; and two sisters in law, Billie Fraley & Ruth Fraley both of Carrollton.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Orville, Ralph & Raymond Fraley; a sister in law, Mary Fraley; and a brother in law, Willie Vanausdoll.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Paradise Baptist Church, 21417 Grange Hall Road, inJerseyville, with her sons, Rev. John Shelton and Rev. Paul Shelton officiating.

Burial will be in the Gunterman Cemetery in Fieldon.

Memorials may be given to the Baptist Childrens Home in Carmi.
