Mabel Foss

Mabel Florence (Gross) Foss, 97 of Alton, Illinois passed away on November 4, 2017 at San Gabriel Memory Care, Highland Illinois. Born January 6, 1920 in Equality, Illinois, she was the daughter of Maggie and Sherman Gross.  Mabel married Edgar Foss on January 22, 1940.  He preceded her in death.Mabel was a very active, fun loving person who loved and was dearly loved by her family.  She excelled as a home-maker, wife, mother and friend.  She enjoyed working in the yard, cooking and canning.  She volunteered at Alton Memorial Hospital Gift Shop for many years.Mabel is survived by her son Fred Foss of Rosewood Heights, Illinois and his wife Kathy (Huber)Foss; 2 sisters, Nonie Seeley and Eva Smith.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Betty Jo (Foss)Hobbs and son in law, John Hobbs; and three brothers; Cecil, Clyde and Alfred.She has four living grandchildren, Stacy (Greg) Hobbs-Stacy of Alva, Florida, Scott Hobbs of Atlanta, Georgia, Jeff Foss of Bunker Hill, Illinois, and Jennifer (James) Freeman of Olathe, Kansas;  and 11 great grandchildren.Visitation will be on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton from 9am until 11am with services immediately following.  Burial will follow services at Upper Alton Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association.  Online condolences and guest book may be found at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com.
