Mabel “Esther” Klepzig

Mabel “Esther” Klepzig, 101, passed away at 4:45 am Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at home with her family by her side.

She was born on October 25, 1913 near Toweridge, IL the daughter of the late Lewis & Anna (Whitaker) Ballinger.

Esther married Joseph Klepzig on December 3, 1933 and he preceded her in death on October 3, 1997.

She loved to play Uno and Skip-Bo with her grandchildren.  She also enjoyed quilting.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kenneth Klepzig of St. Louis, MO and Carl and Hildegard Arnold of Leavenworth, KS;  a daughter-in-law, Leona Klepzig of Benton, IL; three daughters, Alice and Woody Terry of Olive Branch, MS, Lois and Paul Opel of Worden, IL, Elaine and Dorne Smith of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren and their spouse, Kenna and Ray Stock, LeAndra and Clarence Vogelzang, Regina and Matt Dearing, Tim and Tracy Klepzig, Shaundra and Tommy Stapleton, Tom & Liz Klepzig, Petra Arnold,  Glen Arnold, Sherry and Jimmy Rhodes, Darl and Judy Opel, Paula and Henry Lenhardt, Todd and Jenny Powers, Trent and Julie Powers, Cara & Andrew Van Dyke, Amanda and Mervyn Chung-Fat, Drew Smith, and Jessa Smith;  37 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Don Klepzig; a daughter and son-in-law, Mabel & John Powers; two daughters-in-law, Vera Klepzig and Erma Klepzig; two grandsons,  Jerry Lipka and Dale Opel.

Visitation will be from 10 am until time of funeral services at 12 noon Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto with Jeffrey Vogelzang and Delmar Stockwell officiating.

Burial will follow at Worden Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Worden Fire Department or a Charity of One’s Choice.
