M. Dorothy “Dottie” Kortkamp Bruns

M. Dorothy “Dottie” Kortkamp Bruns, 94, died at 3:40 p.m. Sunday, May 14, 2017 at Jerseyville Manor in Jerseyville. Born august 12, 1922 in Alton, she was the daughter of Frank and Katherine (Dick) Miller. She married Chief Petty Officer Joy O. Kortkamp on June 6, 1942. He preceded her in death. She married Lincoln V. Bruns on August 29, 1946. He preceded her in death on. Mrs. Bruns was a member of St. Matthews Catholic Church and later of St. Ambrose Catholic Church. She worked as a sales clerk for the Lee Ann Shop in downtown Alton, and as a seamstress for Superior Carpet in the drapery department. She enjoyed league bowling on Thursday nights at Bowl Haven and Bunco with the Tuesday night ladies. She used her cake decorating skills and made beautiful birthday and wedding cakes for her family. Surviving are three daughters and two sons, Karen Kortkamp (Ronald) Aldridge of Godfrey, Elizabeth Bruns Jenkins of Godfrey, Michael Bruns of Alton, Susan Bruns of Alton, and Larry (Kathy) Bruns of Blaine, WA, 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, two brothers, Paul (Dominica) Miller of Godfrey and Ray (Nancy) Miller of Alton and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Miller Jr. and Donald Miller, a daughter and son-in-law, George and Jacquelyn Bruns Horstman, daughter-in-law, Donna Medford Bruns, son-in-law, Gary Jenkins and a grandson, Cole Wood. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. Father Steve Pohlman will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to St. Ambrose Catholic Church or the Hydrocephalus Association of St. Louis.
