Lynn Welburn

Lynn W. “Red” Welburn, age 84, of Glen Carbon, Illinois, died at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2016, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, Illinois. He was born May 31, 1932, in Oakdale, Nebraska, the son of the late Elmer & Rebekha (Story) Welburn. Red served in the United States Coast Guard for over twenty four years before retiring in 1976, as a Chief Warrant Officer 2. Lynn then worked for several barge lines on the Mississippi River as an engineer before  retiring.  He married Mary Bolton on February 17, 1967, and she survives. Red is also survived by one son, Lester Welburn of Sorento, Illinois; one daughter, Charlotte Henderson & husband Stephen of Golden, Illinois; four grandchildren, Mattie Kay Henderson, Landon L. Welburn, Conrad Henderson, Molly Lynn Henderson; one brother, Wayne Welburn & wife Frieda, of Gila, New Mexico and one brother in law, Maurice Norton of  Louisville, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by one brother, Lloyd; and four sisters, Lois, Joyce, Donna and Marilyn. Red was a  member of the Edwardsville Masonic Lodge #99 AF&AM for 50 years, the McAlister Lodge of Perfection, Aniad Temple, Order of the Easter Star #667, V.F.W. Post #976 in Troy, Illinois, American Legion Post 435 in Glen Carbon, Edwardsville Moose Lodge 1561, and the Chief Warrant Officers Association. He was an avid sports fan and loved  hunting and fishing. A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home in Edwardsville. There will be a Masonic Service held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. He was cremated according to his wishes and interment will be at the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, Iowa.
