Lynn Simburger

Lynn Joseph Simburger, 58, of Elsah, IL, passed away at 4:51 a.m. Wed. Aug. 24, 2016 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

He was born Dec. 11, 1957 in Wood River, IL to the Harold O. Simburger of East Alton, IL and the late Louise (Higgins) Simburger.

Lynn was an outboard mechanic and was the owner of Simburger Outboard Service.  His love and passion was Formula 1 Boat racing and was himself an accomplished record holding driver, having won numerous awards and National Championships.  He was a member of the Alton Motorboat Club and loved to duck and deer hunt.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife: Phyllis Hicks of Elsah, IL; step-mother: Wilma Simburger of East Alton; 2 step-brothers: Ronald (Joan) Voyles of Springfield, IL and Charles (Terri) Voyles of Rockford, IL; brother-in-law: Harley (Betty) Hicks Jr. of Godfrey, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.

Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Harley & Opal Hicks.

Visitation will be from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sun. Aug. 28, 2016 at Paynic Home for Funerals and will continue from 11:00 a.m. until time of funeral services at Noon on Mon. Aug. 29, 2016 at the funeral home with Rev. Laurie Vidal and Fr. Roy J. Simburger officiating.  Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
