Louis (Lou) John Mitchell
1931 – 2026
Lou, born January 30, 1931, on the Cheyenne Agency, Dewey, South Dakota to Albert Mitchell and Elizabeth Nagel Mitchell, passed away at home on July 14, 2026. He was raised in the Black Hills of South Dakota and attended the University of South Dakota before joining the Marine Corp. He served two tours of duty in South Korea and then transitioned to radio broadcasting. Lou managed a far east network station in Tokyo, Japan and then continued his career as a news reporter in radio and TV in the public sector. He earned a BA in Communications from Sangamon State University (University of Illinois, Springfield).
Lou is survived by one brother, Wayne Lee Mitchell (Marie) of Pheonix, AZ, his wife Irene Connor Mitchell, sons: Michael Curtis Mitchell, Marlin Russell Mitchell, and Bradley Chase Mitchell (Robin), daughter Elizabeth Marie Smith (Clinton), Tana Terumi Mitchell Cherry and Kerry Cassaundra Endorf (Darren), 11 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Vines Albert Mitchell and Curtis William Mitchell, sister Ada Lorene Mitchell McCause, son Torin Hartley Mitchell and son-in-law Jack Cherry.
Lou was loved by all who knew him and will be missed dearly by all his family and friends. BLESS HIM ON HIS JOURNEY.
