Louis “Gene” Warner, 84, died at 3:10 p.m. Friday, October 27, 2017 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Born October 7, 1933 in Alton, he was the son of Louis Edward and Mary (Wood) Warner. Mr. Warner served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Godfrey Congregational Church. He was a firefighter for the Olin Corporation where he also served as Union President and retired as a desk Sergeant. He enjoyed fishing and always looked forward to his annual camping/fishing trips with his family. On October 22, 1954 he married Shirley Ann Tolle in Godfrey. She survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Linda Sue (James) Henning of St. Ann, MO, and Michelle Rene’ (Peter) Gillespie of Dow, IL, seven grandchildren, Patrick (Meghan) Gillespie, Megan Gillespie, Jamie (Eli) Crawford, Julie (Aaron) Lindsey, Joy (Michael) Stern, Josiah Henning and Jeremiah Henning, seven great grandchildren, Abigail, Ally, Harvey, Henry and Stanley Crawford, and Aliza and River Stern, and one brother, Robert E. (Roseann) Warner of Mesa, AZ along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Evelyn Ealey and Mary Tungett. He was dearly loved and highly respected by his family. He will be deeply missed. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 3, 2017 at the Upper Alton Baptist Church. Pastor Brad Donoho will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308. Memorials may be made to the VFW Post 1308.
