Lorene “Pat” Shive, 92, peacefully passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Eden Village Retirement Center. Pat loved the staff and residents of Eden Village where she had called home for the past four years.
She was born at home in Barry County Missouri, on February 23, 1932, the daughter of Harrison and Versa (Tunnell) Furlow. She married Charlie Shive on June 23, 1964, in Chicago Illinois. An avid fisherwoman who would compete in and win many fishing events and tournaments over the years. Also, a lover of gospel and country music and would dance, sing, and play guitar.
Along with many other business adventures over the years, she loved beauty and fashion, becoming a licensed beautician in 1967 until her health forced her to close her Bethalto beauty shop in 1975. She became a Certified Nursing Assistant in 1980 and worked for Elder Care of Alton before her retirement in 2009.
Survivors include her son, Mike Hill of East Alton, IL; three grandchildren, Danne (Heather) Reinke of Alhambra, IL, Toni (Paul) Knoche of Moro, IL, and Dennis Cline of Roxana, IL; four great-grandchildren, Tyler Windsor, Deven Reinke, Deren Reinke, and Terra Betz; two great-great-grandchildren, Levi Windsor, and Mariah Betz; and a sister, Rose Yenne of Wood River.
Along with her parents and husband, Charlie, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Cline; and several siblings, Eugene (Gene) Furlow, Loretta (Mae) Yenne, Clovis (Tobe) Furlow, Jane Nash, Loyal (Tweets) Furlow, and Dorothy Battles.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2024, from 3 to 6 pm, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto, where funeral services will also be held on Friday, March 15, 2024, at 11 am. Pastor Steven Battles will officiate.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
