Lonnie Mercer

Lonnie Ray Mercer, 81, passed away August 18, 2023 at his residence.

Born November 12, 1941 in Alton, he was the son of Raymond Mercer and Juanita (Harris) Mercer Burns.

A U.S. Army veteran, he was employed as a laborer out of Labor Local #338 in Wood River for over 40 years before retiring in 2002.

On December 21, 1973 in Portland, OR, he married Dona Overton. She survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife are five daughters, Deana (Steve) Avery of Edwardsville, Natalie (Kenny) Hicks of Granite City, Melanie Mercer of Kane, Cynthia Mercer in Kentucky, Erika Hanikan of Jerseyville; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sisters, Janet Lajoie in Kansas, Judy Traun in California, Joyce Kyle of Alton, Nancy Welch in Texas.

Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark Mercer; and sisters, Phyllis Dearduff, Linda Overton, Betty Wahl, Brenda Burns, Debbie Burns and Robin Burns.

Graveside service and interment will be at 2 pm, Tuesday, September 5 at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Disabled American Veterans.
