Lois McGinnis

Rosewood Heights |

Lois McGinnis, our beloved mom, grandma, great grandma and sister, passed away May 25, 2019 from complications of heart failure at the age of 89 in Wheaton, Illinois.

She was born June 16, 1929 in Greenfield Illinois to William and Martha Greene.  She graduated from Greenfield High School.  She married Earl McGinnis on September 29, 1949. He preceded her in death on February 22, 1985.

Lois was a stay at home mom for many years and eventually went to work when her children were older. Lois worked for the Wood River Township Hospital in their business office and retired in 1990. After retirement from the hospital she worked part time at Venture and Value City in the jewelry department. She loved her card club and often made her famous margaritas for all to enjoy.

In 2008 she sold her home in Wood River and moved to Bloomingdale, IL in the Chicago area to be closer to her family. She quickly made new friends in her senior community and enjoyed her 'Lunch Bunch" outings, playing Bunko and Bingo, going to her book club and knitting club. For the last two years she lived with her daughter and son-in-law, Bev and John.  She will be sadly missed by all.

Lois is survived by her four children;  Michael McGinnis (Peggy) of Oracle AZ, Beverly George (John) of Carol Stream IL, Carol Cross of Herculaneum, Mo, and Cathy Newport of Sheboygan, WI.  She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Jill Furtado (Paul) of Bakersfield CA, Peter McGinnis of Fresno, CA, Emily Marvin (Nick) of Winfield IL, Allison George of Phoenix, Brad Reader  (Josh) of St. Louis, Chris Reader (Catherine)  of Lombard, IL, and Matilda Newport of Sheboygan WI. Lois also is survived by seven great grandchildren.  She is survived by one dear sister, Suzy Dorsey of Pekin, Illinois and several nieces and nephews.
