Lois Kopp

Lois Elaine Kopp, 87, of Glen Carbon and formerly of Cambridge House in Maryville and also a longtime resident of Menfro, Missouri passed away at 11:43 p.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Eden Village in Glen Carbon.  She was born January 16, 1936, in St. Louis, Missouri, a daughter of the late Herbert and Opal (Taylor) Cox.  She married Wendell Lee “Wendy” Kopp on September 16, 1980, in Lake Tahoe, California and he passed away on February 16, 2018.  Lois graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1979 and received her master’s degree in 1993.  She retired from Hoyleton Youth and Family Services after many years of dedicated service as a counselor with the Youth at Risk Program.  Lois had also worked for Triad School District as a teacher’s aide, Hospice of Madison County and for Chestnut Health Services.  She was an active and faithful member of Metro Community Church for 25 years and continued her fellowship with the Christian Silvers for many years.  She enjoyed her friends and many activities at both Cambridge House and Eden Village and was a member of the S.I.U.E. Alumni Association and the Red Hat Ladies.  She enjoyed reading and collecting angels and teapots.  She was an excellent cook and loved dinners with family and friends and had a love for nature and enjoyed bird watching and especially fond of hummingbirds.  Lois was always caring for others in many ways throughout her life and her daughter and son-in-law followed this by caring and loving for her these past years, taking her to lunch and dinner, hours of phone calls daily, enjoying all holiday festivities and family gatherings.  She was very involved with Foreign Exchange students at S.I.U.E. and became a host family to students from Trinidad, becoming a part of their families lives over the years.  She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Donna Lybarger of Collinsville and Douglas and Cory Lybarger of Meriam, Kansas; a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Bill Dorrough of Maryville; step children and their spouses, Pamela Manns, Linda and Mark Hagerbaumer, Brenda and John Wheatley and Randall and Cindy Kopp, all of Bloomington; six grandchildren and their spouses, Katie and Chris Parks, Andy and Stefani Lybarger, Jake Lybarger, Nick Lybarger, Grace Lybarger and Parker Lybarger; three great grandchildren; several step grandchildren; step great-grandchildren and step great-great grandchildren; a brother and brother-in-law, Leroy and Ven Cox of St. Louis; nieces and nephews, Linelle and Brian Lamson and Matt and Heidi Hill; great nieces and great nephews; her adopted family from Trinidad, Joe Teemul, Vashti Hix, Sherry and Bryan Nguyen, Robin and Kamala Teemul, Pawny and Estee Teemul and their children and grandchildren; other extended family and many loving friends.  In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Thomas Lybarger.  In celebration of her life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon, Illinois on Thursday, December 14, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.  Visitation will continue at Irwin Chapel on Friday, December 15, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 10:00 a.m.  Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights, Illinois.  Memorials may be made to Vitas Hospice and may be accepted at the funeral chapel.  www.irwinchapel.com
