Lloyd Eugene Bishop, 80, passed away at 1:02 P.M. March 5, 2012 at Relais Bonne Eau Hospice Center in Edwardsville.
He was born on October 26, 1931, in Alton, the son of Francisco Newton and Minnie Bell (Adkins) Bishop, who are both deceased. He had one brother, Robert Bishop, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Jo Ann (Fulks) Bishop, who he married in 1981; four children: Steven Bishop; Randy Bishop and his wife, Cheryl; Dale Bishop; and Kim and her husband, Gary Astrauskas. His youngest daughter, Sallie Bishop passed away in 1995. He has four grandchildren: Jennifer Tiemann, Tom Bishop, Joel Bishop, and Katie Bishop. He has three great grandchildren: Julia Tiemann, Miles Tiemann, and Jordan Bishop.
He was married to Norma White in 1953. She survives.
Lloyd graduated from Roxana High School in 1949.
Lloyd served in the armed forces from 1950 to 1953 and fought in the Korean War.
Lloyd was a Ham Radio operator. He also loved building and flying radio control model airplanes and belonged to the Midwest Air Wing R/C Club.
He retired from Owens-Illinois Godfrey Machine Shop after working there for 42 years as a machinist. He was also a flight instructor and charter pilot for Walston Aviation in Bethalto in earlier years.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm, Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at the Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 am, Thursday, March 8, 2012.
Burial will follow at the Upper Alton Cemetery in Alton.
