Linnetta Woods
Godfrey | Save
Linnetta “Gale” Woods, 82, died at 4:29 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at her residence. She was born November 30, 1942 in Spartanburg, N.C., the daughter of the late Luther Alonzo and Martha Elizabeth (Herbstreit) Dix.
Gale worked as a bookkeeper for various companies around the area for many years. Gale had a gift for turning everyday moments into lessons that shaped generations. She taught us the value of morals, hard work, and kindness, and she guided us toward our goals with patience and love. From plant identification and geography to cooking, art, and so much more, she shared her vast knowledge freely and joyfully, nurturing curiosity in everyone she met.
She especially treasured family meals — lovingly prepared where everyone came together around a beautiful table complete with fancy napkins, good food, and even better stories. These meals reflected what mattered most to her: family, togetherness, and gratitude for the simple joys of life.
Creative and talented, Gale found happiness in crafting — making things beautiful with her hands and her heart. Her creativity touched every corner of her home and every person she loved.
She will be deeply missed, and her legacy will continue in every plant we recognize, every meal we share, every project we create, and every act of love we pass forward.
On January 10, 1970 in Godfrey, she married Richard Woods and he survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Bev Arnet (Keith) of St. Peters, MO, Traci Woods of Godfrey, Deborah Brynteson (Richard) of Colorado, Melissa Goodwin (David) of Ohio, one son Matthew Woods (Sonya) of Alton, seven grandchildren, Sean, Nicole (Brett), Jonathon, Eythan (Hannah), Emilie, Alec and Annabelle, two great grandchildren, Taylor and Elizabeth and one sister, Shelly Croxton (Keith) of Gulf Shores, AL.
