Lily Hughes, age 75, of Alton, passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at Evelyn's House in Creve Couer, MO.
She was born July 30, 1943, in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Preston and Mary (Hebruck) Hapgood. She married Charles Hughes on January 21, 1965, in Wood River, and he survives.
Lily loved bingo and cooking. She was an avid reader of mystery and romance novels. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family especially her great-grandchildren. The greatest love of her life was her husband, Charles.
In addition to her husband, Charles; she is survived by five children and their spouses, Patricia Breaux of Alton, William Hughes of Pennsylvania, Tina and Pete Morales of Texas, Bobby and Suzanne Hughes of Ellis Grove, IL, and Michelle and Norman Finley of St. Mary, MO; six siblings, Mary Blackard of Cottage Hills, Susan Vest of Alton, Margaret and Bob Lefler of Perryville, Agnes Roberts of E. Alton, Mike Hapgood of Cottage Hills, and John and Cathy Hapgood of Perryville; fifteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Lily was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by many.
She is preceded in death by her parents; and six siblings, Kimberly Hughes, Shirley Hapgood, Thomas Hapgood, Joyce Baylor, William Hapgood, Preston Hapgood Jr., and Patricia Hapgood.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 22, 2018, from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton.
Burial will take place in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Evelyn's House.
