Lillian Bell Lewis was born May 31, 1928 in Mound Bayou, Mississippi to the union of the late Monroe and Maudie Bell “Mama Lou”(Buchanan) Lewis.
The former Ms. Lillian Lewis married James Embrey. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Embrey accomplished much in life: received G.E.D., various courses in psychiatric nursing, a cook at Alton Day Care for 20 years, food preparer and cook at Wegners Store, house keeper for many families, homemaker, foster grandparent SSP for 17 years, and raised 10 children.
Sister Embrey professed a hope in Christ at an early age and was a faithful solider serving in many capacities: a faithful member for many years at Webster Temple C.O.G.I.C., a licensed missionary, avid bible scholar, a member of Open Door Fellowship Church, and later attended church at Marian Heights Apartments.
Mother Lillian Bell Embrey went home to be with the Lord Friday, October 20, 2017 at 4:20 p.m. at O.S.F. Saint Anthony’s Health Center.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by: 4 children, Otis, Brenda, Gerald, and James, Jr.; 3 grandchildren, Marsha Ann Spears, Brandi Hooks, and David Hooks; 4 siblings, A C Lewis, Jeanette Davis, Annie Lou Grant, and Pastor George Lewis.
Left to celebrate a lasting legacy: 6 children, John Spears, Trudy(Kurt)Buster, Sherri(Theron)Mason, and Maud Dean Spears Ewing all of Alton, Lemond(Nablia)Embrey of Florida, and Larry (Treyce) Spears of Bloomington, IL; 29 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; a sister in law, Annie Mae Lewis of Alton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will convene Friday, November 3, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at 10:00 a.m. at Open Door Fellowship Church. Interment will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery.
