Lester Bertels

Lester R. Bertels, 87, of Dorsey, IL, died at Staunton Health and Rehab Center on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at 9:40 am.  He was born September 12, 1936, in Dorsey, IL to Benhardt Bertels & Mary Aljets Bertels.  He married Betty J. Grizzle Bertels on July 20, 1957 in Dorsey, IL.  He was retired after having been a farmer and an electrician for the steel mill.  Lester enjoyed woodworking, gardening, camping, playing cards and working on puzzles.  He is survived by his spouse, Betty Bertels of Dorsey, IL, children, Jeff (Melinda) Bertels of Dorsey, IL, Tracey Smith of Bunker Hill, Keith (Ann) Bertels of Jefferson City, MO, Karen (Joe) Fernandez of Mt Olive, IL, Sharon (Steve) Honaker of Winona, MO, 18 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and sister in law, Laurine Bertels of Marine, IL.  Lester was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Raymond Bertels, sister and brother in law, Pauline and Louis Enke.  Friends may call on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Kravanya Funeral Home in Bunker Hill from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.  Funeral services are Wednesday, February 7, 2024 at 11:00 am at Emmaus Lutheran Church in Dorsey.  Burial will be at Emmaus Lutheran Cemetery in Dorsey.  Memorials are suggested to Emmaus Lutheran Church in Dorsey.  Anyone wishing to send an online condolence may do so at www.kravanyafuneral.com.
