Leslie “Dale” Wahlstrom, 89, died at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, June 11, 2017 at his home in Godfrey. Born April 29, 1928 in Boliver, MO, he was the son of Victor and Mayme (Jacobson) Wahlstrom. He served with the U.S. Marines during the Korean War and was a member of the Godfrey First United Methodist Church. In 1990 he retired as a machinist from McDonnell Douglas. On May 26, 1949 he married the former Martha “Dolly” Curtis in Alton. She survives. He was a husband, dad and grandpa and will be loved always. Also surviving are two daughters, Bev Long (Dale) of Bethalto and Janet Sherrill of New Palestine, IN, a son, ken Wahlstrom of Bethalto, five grandchildren, Sarah Denu (Jason), Katie Bass (Drew), Shelly Parker (Brent), Jeff Davis (Jamie), and Jeremy Davis (Megan) and also nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death two sons-in-law, John David and Larry Sherrill. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2017. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF.org).
