Leroy Trappey, 78, died at 7:45 a.m., Monday, July 30, 2012 at Jerseyville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.He was born in Hammond, In. on Oct. 29, 1933 and was one of five children born to the late Paul & Georgia (Lee) Trappey.After the passing of his mother when Leroy was very young, he moved to Kampsville to live with his Aunt Etta Lewis and her son, Eugene "Jack" Lewis on the family farm.He graduated from Kampsville High School and went on to become employed at Owens-Illinois in Alton, and later became employed with the custodial staff at the Carrollton School District retiring in 1992.Surviving are three sons & and their spouses, Gary & Mimi Trappey of Orlando, Fl., Steve & Debbie Trappey of Alton, and Dale Baehler of Carrollton; three grandchildren, Chris, Brian and Amber; a sister, Gloria Bland of Wood River; a very special cousin and his wife, Eugene & Betti Lewis, who was more like a brother to Leroy; along with four nephews, one niece, and his former wife, and mother of Gary & Steve, Mary Bryant.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his aunt Etta Lewis, whom he grew up to know as his mother; two brothers, Eugene Trappey and John Trappey; a sister, Ilene Holterfield.Per his wishes, he will be cremated, and private memorial services will be conducted at a later date.Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville is in charge of the arrangements.
