Leonard H. Rose, 77, passed away at 12:30 pm, Thursday June 7, 2012 at home.
He was born August 22, 1934 in Deer Plain, IL the son of the late Henry J. and Bertha Ann (Telkamp) Rose.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and the Korean Conflict from 1955 to 1982, retiring as Commanding Sergeant Major. He was employed by the U.S. Government in the Civil Service for 38 years, becoming a maintenance supervisor and retiring in 1993. He was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and belonged to the American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and the Brussels American Legion.
He is survived by one daughter and her spouse, Marilyn and Steve Krankel of Alton, IL; one son and his spouse, Theodore “Ted” and Bonnie Rose of Alton; former wife, Catherine Gibson of Alton; one brother and his spouse, Joseph and Patricia Rose of Alton; one sister in law, Merry Lynn Rose of Alton; and three grandchildren, Ryan Rose, Hannah Rose, and Jason Krankel and his fiancé Lindsey Dellamano.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Aloysius “Ollie” Rose.
Visitation will be from 12 pm to 4 pm, Sunday June 10, 2012 at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 am, Monday June 11, 2012 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey with Reverend Jerry Wickenhauser officiating.
Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Brussels, IL. Military rites will be conducted by Alton VFW Post Ritual Team.
Memorials may be made to Marquette Catholic High School, Building Fund of St. Mary Catholic Church in Brussels, IL, or the American Diabetes Association.
