Leonard Chairney, 80, passed away at 10:05pm on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, with his family by his side. He was born on January 9, 1943, in Alton, the son of the late Louis and Alice “Wilma” (Graham) Chairney. He married the former Jean Honegger and she survives. Other survivors include a daughter: Christine McGoveran of Wood River, three sons: Louis (Kaitlyn) Chairney of Bethalto, Lee (Haylee Pope) Chairney of Edwardsville, Luke Chairney of Wood River, six grandchildren: Daniel, Tyler, Courtney, Ava, Lennox, Lyndon, a great grandson: Frank Thomas McGoveran, a sister and brother in law: Fran (Carl) DeMarchi of New York, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
In accordance with Leonard’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and there will be no formal services. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date with his family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Health Well Foundation or to Foodstock NFP and will be accepted at the funeral home.
