Leitha Johnson

Leitha Brunaugh Johnson, 88, died at 12:13 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Alton Memorial Hospital. She was born April 23, 1927 in Alton the daughter of Dewey and Dorothy (Cushing) Payne. She spent her life as a homemaker and babysitter to her grandchildren, and other youngsters. On June 10, 1945 in Alton she married Warren Brunaugh Sr. and he preceded her in death on July 26, 1972. She later married Christopher Johnson on December 11, 1976 in Alton and he preceded her in death July 2, 1993. Surviving are three daughters, Sue Depper (George) of Alton, Marsha Cooperider (Steve) of Edwardsville and Julie Rogers (Bruce) of Godfrey, eleven grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren and one sister, Helen Clement of Godfrey. She was preceded in death by one son, Warren Brunaugh Jr., one daughter, Karen Goodwin. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home with Reverend Mike Adams Jr. to officiate. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery.
