Leighton E. Gray, 90, died at 3:37 a.m. Friday, November 30, 2018 at Jerseyville Manor.
Born June 8, 1928 in Woodlawn, IL., he was the son of the late Earl and Esther (Brueggman) Gray. Mr. Gray served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a retired boiler operator from the Alton Box Board.
After retirement he enjoyed farming for many years. On February 26, 1949 he married the former Ruth Ann Campion in Alton and she preceded him in death on December 14, 2017.
He is survived by his daughter and son in law: Karen Bechtold (Mark) of Godfrey, two granddaughters: Tracie Trexler of Godfrey and Laura Moeller (Rick) of Florissant, MO, two great grandchildren: Lexi and Jack Trexler and one brother: Robert Gray (Lynne) of Girard, IL.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one brother: Wesley Gray and two sisters: Marian McGuiggan and Anna Marie Ferry.
Visitation will be from 2:00 – 6:00 PM on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be Monday at 9:00 AM with Rev. Steve Rice officiating.
Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville with full military honors by VFW Post 1308 of Alton.
Memorials may be made to the VFW Post 1308 of which he was a member.
