Lawrence W. “Wayne” Baughman, 87, passed away at 2:22 a.m. Tuesday, March 09, 2010 at Eldercare of Alton.
Born Sept. 9, 1930 in Alton, he was the son of Charles Ralph and Jennie Marie (Devore) Baughman.
A U.S. Army private-first class, he served during World War II. During his service, he married Viola M. Sethaler in Shreveport, La. on Aug. 12, 1944. She survives.
He worked as a meat cutter for Luer’s in Alton for 18 years, then at Krey’s in St. Louis for another 18 years before retiring in 1978.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Charlene and Roger Joyce of Punta Gorda, Fla. and Jan and Mark Strickland of Rosewood Heights; a daughter-in-law, Janice Baughman of Wood River; four grandchildren, Jason Baughman and his wife Chelsea, K.R. Joyce, Chad Joyce, and Lauren Strickland; two great grandchildren, Hunter and Fynn; a sister-in-law, Norma Sethaler of Bethalto; a brother-in-law, Henry Sethaler of Caseyville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard L. Baughman; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Helen and Clement Tuey, Norbert Sethaler, Rosemary and Francis Hansen, Martha and Keith Hardwick, Leo, Louis, and Charles Sethaler, and Bernard and Brenda Sethaler.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, March 11 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father James Flach at 10 a.m. Friday, March 12 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Wood River.
Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be given to St. Anthony’s Hospice or the National Parkinson’s Foundation.
