Lawrence W. "Bud" Schmidt

JERSEYVILLE-  Lawrence W.  "Bud" Schmidt, 93, died Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Jefferson Barracks Veterans Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.He was born on July 22, 1920,  and was born to the late William P. & Marie (Ulmer) Schmidt of Carrollton.Bud graduated from St. John's Catholic School in Carrollton, and joined the U.S. Marine Corp and later moved to Los Angeles, Ca., where he and his wife, the former Claudia Hires raised their family.After the death of his wife Claudia, Bud was blessed with with love once again, and married the former Beverly S. Evans on Feb. 14, 2004 at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville.Surviving are his wife, Beverly Schmidt of Jerseyville; one son, Michael Schmidt of Los Angeles; three daughters, Toni Schmidt, Debbie Schmidt, and her companion, Stephen Hawk, and Candace Marie Schmidt all of Los Angeles; 10 Grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; a sister, Betsy (Schmidt) Wyatt of White Hall; one sister in law, Lois Schmidt of Carrollton; and a brother in law, Gene Murphy of Jerseyville; along with numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, and his wife, Claudia, he was preceded in death by a brother, Walter P. Schmidt; and two sisters, Norma Catherine Murphy & Leone Marie Stendeback.Cremation has taken place.A visitation will be held from 9 a.m., Saturday until time of a Memorial Mass at 10 a.m., at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville, with Father William Hembrow officiating.Inurnment will be at the St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Jerseyville, with the Tri County Honor Guard conducting military graveside rites.The family requests no flowers and plants, but instead, would appreciate memorials either to the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyville or to the family
