Laurie Ann McCoy (nee Schau), 64, of O’Fallon, IL, born on August 26, 1961, in Belleville, IL, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
Laurie worked as a Clinical Clerk for the St. Clair County Health Department for over 20 years before her retirement. She loved Sunday drives with husband Jeff with no particular place in mind other than just spending time together. Laurie enjoyed lying across her bed watching old movies and the Hallmark Channel during the holiday season.
Laurie looked forward to Saturday nights together with her group of special childhood friends sitting on her sister Lu Ann’s patio during the nice weather or around her kitchen island during the cold. She enjoyed “Family Dinner” on Thursday nights at her Aunt Doris’s home spending time with cousins talking about old times and just life in general.
Her son Nick remembers his mom being very protective, always having his back. Nick said his mom and dad were very brave letting him see his biological family post adoption. Nick said it always seemed normal as a child but as an adult he couldn’t imagine how scary that must have been. Nick remembers waking up on Saturday mornings to Christmas music blaring through the house while she was cleaning no matter what time of year. Laurie was strong-willed, generous, big-hearted and wore her heart on her sleeve. Laurie and her sister Lu Ann were very close. They talked all the time about their childhood growing up and how happy their childhood was. They were only 11 months apart and laughed often about how mom as a wonderful seamstress would make identical outfits and dress them up like twins.
Laurie has a special bond with her niece Elizabeth and nephew Tommy. Due to Tommy’s disability and Special Needs Laurie always jokingly said Tommy was her favorite but we all knew she meant it. When her Great Niece Remi was born she spent many days during the week at Lu Ann’s spending time with her little “Missy Tootles.
Laurie was preceded in death by her parents, Cletus and Bernadine Schau (nee Hasemann).
Left to cherish Laurie’s memory are her beloved husband, Jeffrey McCoy of O’Fallon, IL; one son, Nick (Clara) McCoy of St. Louis, MO; one sister, Lu Ann Henry of O’Fallon, IL; one sister-in-law, Debbie (Keith) Davidson of CA; aunt, Doris Votrain; three cousins, Tracey Schau, Vicki Eskra, Lisa Altman; and five nieces and nephews, Robb (Heather) Davidson, Lindsey Davidson, Tommy Henry, Elizabeth (DeMarcus) Henry, and Remi Hampton.
