Laura Twente, 91, of Bethalto, was carried to her Heavenly home on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at 6:00 p.m., while at Jerseyville Manor.
She was born on June 17, 1932, in Harrisburg, IL, the daughter of Claude and Jessie (Anderson) Johnson. Laura married the love of her life, Clifford R. Twente in South Roxana, IL, on July 1, 1949. They celebrated 74 years of marriage, and he survives.
Laura and Clifford lived together in Bunker Hill for 47 years before moving to Bethalto. They were members of Cornerstone Church in Bethalto. Laura enjoyed listening to her audio Bible. She was a servant at heart and was passionate about helping others. Laura enjoyed being outside, enjoying God's creation. While inside, she could be found watching The Andy Griffith Show or Wheel of Fortune.
Along with her husband, Clifford; she is survived by her children, Earl (Linda) Twente of Bunker Hill, Phyllis Turnage of Beaumont, TX, and Krista Twente of St. Charles, MO; a sister, Evie Andrew; two brothers, Claude Johnson and Larry Johnson; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren with another on the way; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Doris Hunter; and a son-in-law, Reverend Charles Turnage.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, from 9 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m., at Cornerstone Church in Bethalto. Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto is entrusted with arrangements. Burial will follow at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana.
