Laura Bopp

Laura Louise (Lueker) Bopp, 80, died at 7:30 p.m., Monday, February 12, 2018 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.

She was born on April 24, 1937 in Granite City to the late George Walter and Elsie Marie (Hayden) Lueker.

After her mother's death, when Laura was just 3 years old, she went to live with an aunt in Pinckneyville, eventually returning to the Dow area with her father, where she and her sister Alice took on the responsibilities of caring for their younger siblings.

She married Gerald Dean Bopp and together they made their home in Jerseyville for a short time before relocating to Cottage Hills, where they raised their family of three children. Laura remained in Cottage Hills for nearly 40 years, where she found great happiness and companionship in a dear friend, Charles "Corky" Bohannon. After Corky's passing, Laura settled back in Jerseyville, where she has remained for the past 10 years.

She was employed as a caregiver at Beverly Farms, a career she took great pride in and truly enjoyed doing. 

Laura enjoyed shopping as well as playing cards and bingo with friends and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family and enjoyed her many trips to Colorado to visit them.

Surviving are a son, Gerald Dean Bopp Jr. of Taylorville; two daughters and a son in-law, Janis Elaine Bopp of Grand Junction, CO and Linda & Bill Cooley of Eminence, MO; seven granchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild on the way; a sister, Alice Province of Granite City; four brothers, George Lueker of South Roxana; Gordon & Patsy Lueker and Donald Lueker, both of Otterville; and Richard & Joyce Lueker of Jerseyville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the father of her children, Gerald Dean Bopp; a longtime companion, Charles "Corky" Bohannon; and a brother, Charles Lueker.

Per her wishes, cremation rights have been accorded and no services are planned at this time.

Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville is in charge of arrangements.
