Laura Deffendall

Laura L. Deffendall, nee Vernier, 88, of Belleville, IL, born January 10, 1938, in Belleville, IL, died Friday, February 6, 2026, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, IL.

Laura was a very funny, kind, and loving woman. She loved to cook and play cards and bingo. Laura loved animals and her beloved granddog, Griffin. Above all else, she adored and loved spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Cecelia, nee Voss, Vernier; and a brother, Donald Vernier.

Surviving are two sons, Mark Deffendall of Ohio and Robert Deffendall of Connecticut; a daughter, Lynn Deffendall of Missouri; two grandchildren, Travis and Lauren Deffendall; a great-grandson, Jude Nemeth; a brother, Kenneth Vernier; three sisters, Janet Mueller, Lucille (Irvin) Fries, and Margie (Rich) Battaglia; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2026, at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL.

Funeral: A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2026, at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic Church, Belleville, IL, with Msgr. William McGhee officiating.
