Laura Fenstermaker

Jerseyville |

Laura Belle Fenstermaker, 87, died at 1:46 a.m., Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

She was born in Kane, Il., on November 30, 1930, and was the daughter of Harry Lynn and Nellie Louella (Adams) Mundy.

She was a very loving and content woman, who took great pride in her family.

In spite of some of the devastating losses she endured, she always managed a smile and constant positive attitude, and was always able to find something to be thankful for. She enjoyed any and all family gatherings, and looked forward to family vacations, particularly those taken at the Cloud 9 Ranch in Caulfield, Mo.

Later in life, she never said no when asked to join her family on a vacation and thoroughly enjoyed being able to be a part of any excursion.

She was formerly employed as a housekeeper at the Colonial Inn Hotel in Jerseyville, and later cleaned homes for several people, many of whom became dear friends.

She was also a member of the Otterville Baptist Church, and was well known for her delicious coconut cream pies, for which she won several awards.

She married Earl Edward Fenstermaker on Jan. 25, 1954 in Jerseyville, and together they raised their six children in the rural area of Otter Creek Township. The two shared 37 years together prior to his death on May 10, 1992.

Surviving are three sons and a daughter in-law, Kenneth & Cathy Fenstermaker of Swannanoa, NC., Earl Emory Fenstermaker and Wayne Fenstermaker both of Jerseyville; two daughters and a son in-law, Karen Weible and Cheryl and Bill Scoggins, both of Jerseyville; a son in-law, Modell "Sonny" Renken of Alton; 14 Grandchildren; 24 Great Grandchildren; and three sisters, Mary Shaw of Fieldon, Lois Shaw of Jerseyville and Marjorie Gilbert of Grafton.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Renken on Oct. 13, 2002; a daughter in-law, Pamela Fenstermaker on Apr. 8, 1996; a grandson, William Dean Renken; an infant granddaughter, Michelle Renken; and two sisters, Hazel Varble and Louella Mundy in infancy.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday. Her son in-law, Rev. Sonny Renken, will officiate.

She will be laid to rest in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Memorials may be given to the Jersey Community Hospital Ambulance Fund.
