Larry Montgomery

Larry M. “Iceman” Montgomery, 69, passed away, at 10:20 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.He was born October 18, 1947, in Muskegon, Michigan, the son of John L. and Juanita (Haynes) Montgomery.He married Yvonne (Pasco) Whitehead on December 7, 1998, in Holiday Shores, Illinois. She survives.Larry was a veteran of the United States Army during the Vietnam War.He was a tow boat captain, working for Marquette Transportation for 35 years prior to retirement in 2007. Fishing and duck hunting were great passions of Larry’s. He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed NASCAR, boating and music. He loved socializing with his friends, and loved his dog, Jax.In addition to his wife, survivors include a step son, Scott and Elizabeth Whitehead of Bethalto; a step grandson, Devin and Katherine Whitehead of North Dakota; a step great grandson, Gavin Whitehead of Brighton; two sisters, Dottie and Gloria; and one brother, Tim.He was preceded in death by his parents.Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until time of memorial service at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral in Bethalto.Per his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.Memorials may be made to 5 A’s in Alton.An online condolence and guest book may be found at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com
