Larry Campbell

Larry Paul Campbell, 71, formally of South Roxana but was currently residing at Longevity in Godfrey, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Thursday July 30th, 2026 at 11:28pm, after battling a long history of various illnesses.

He was born on October 23rd 1954, in Wood River, to the late Charles (Glen) Campbell and Concetta (Connie) Campbell.

Larry was a 1974 graduate of Roxana Senior High School and was a Troupe 557 Thespian, which he was best known for playing the part of "Winnie the Pooh" in his senior play. He retired from Olin Winchester in 2018 after for 40 years.

Larry had a huge love for all things history and participated in various historical reenactments, his favorite being the Civil War time period. Larry also participated in Competitive Swing Dancing, earning him many awards. He later went on to teach Swing classes in Collinsville. He was also part owner of Jitters Night Club in Wood River. Larry was an artist and enjoyed making and painting various objects, usually consisting of ships, houses, and miniature war figurines.

He is survived by his sister Teresa (Campbell) Holford (Steve), of East Alton and brother David Campbell of Wood River. He was loved by his nephews and nieces; Chris Campbell (Rachael) of South Roxana, Carla (Campbell) Klaustermeier (Brad) of Bethalto, Kim (Campbell) Zakrzewski (Joe) of Bethalto, Stephanie (Holford) Lane (Daniel) of East Alton, Todd Holford (Ana) of East Alton, along with many great nieces and nephews (Taylor, Drew and Kyle Campbell, Alaina, Maya and Eli Zakrzewski, Zachary, Madelyn, Nathaniel and Ellie Lane and Aurora Holford), along with many cousins who will miss him greatly.

Larry was known for his quick wit and comical personality, always wanting to make someone smile or laugh. He always lit up the room as soon as he walked into it and his presence will be missed by all that loved him. Larry was able to give the gift of organ/tissue donation and was able to donate tissue, bone and eye, in hopes that he will be able to help someone else.

Upon Larry's wishes, he is to be cremated and a celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date. Mark's Mortuary in Wood River is in charge of all arrangements. In place of flowers, the family asks that you make memorial masses at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Wood River. He may be gone but he will never be forgotten by all of those that knew and loved him.
