Kerry Cavanaugh

Kerry D. Cavanaugh, age 77, passed away June 27, 2023 at Granite City Nursing & Rehab in Granite City, Illinois. Kerry was born at DePaul Hospital in St Louis, Missouri April 19, 1946. He was of the Christian faith first and foremost. He graduated from Granite City Senior High School in 1964.  Kerry was drafted into the United States Army in 1971 and served in the Vietnam War. As a master carpenter, he retired from Carpenters Hall Local 633 in 2019 and attended to his many rental properties scattered throughout Granite City. His genuine kindness and compassion touched the lives of countless individuals whether it was for spiritual guidance, words of encouragement or monetary gifts.  He made a profound impact on all who had the pleasure of knowing him and all will miss his legendary long-winded stories.

Kerry was preceded in death by his parents: Thomas James and Evelyn S. (Leatherman) Cavanaugh and brothers Stephen Eugene Cavanaugh and Brian Patrick Cavanaugh all of Granite City.

Surviving Family Members: Brother Jimmy Cavanaugh and sister in-law Michelle Judd of Pontoon Beach, sister Susan E. Miller of Belleville, Jamie & Jerry, Jonathon & Taylor, Jordan & Ryan and Joseph Chappell of Staunton, Amy and Ahren Cavanaugh of Granite City, Erin (Miller) & Dave Martin of Kansas City MO, Jessica (Miller) & Billy King, Christopher and Riley King of Belleville, Casey Jensen of Granite City, as well as goddaughter Amelia Tapp of Granite City, and Friends of Oregon Avenue.

In accordance with Kerry’s wishes, cremation services were entrusted to Irwin Chapel of Granite City. His final burial site will be in St. Louis at Jefferson Barracks Columbarium “The Wall” beside his brother Stephen Cavanaugh. A celebration of his life and legacy will be held with immediate family and friends. Condolences may be expressed to www.irwinchapel.com.
