Katherine Maupin

Katherine A. Maupin, 98, died at 8:25 a.m., Friday,  March 31, 2017 surrounded by her family in the home she'd lived in for over 70 years.She was born in Sidney, Montana on Oct. 23, 1918, and was one of three children born to William and Mayme (Herring) Miller.The family remained in Montana until moving to the Alton area when Katherine was 18 years of age.   While at the Farley Hall in Elsah, she met a gentleman by the name Leland H. Maupin, and the two married on Feb. 2, 1940.  Just a year later the two moved to a farm near Otterville, and soon thereafter built their brick home where she has remained ever since.   She and Lee were the proud parents of three sons, and together they instilled in them the value of hard work, loyalty and commitment.  Katherine herself, was a woman of strong determination, and assisted right along with her husband and sons on their dairy farm, and was widely known for her garden stand where she sold blueberries, blackberries and asparagus.  She had a wonderful life, and shared nearly 53 years of marriage until Lee passed away on Jan. 3, 1993.Surviving are her three sons and a daughter in law, David Maupin, Robert and Terry Maupin, and Allan Maupin all of Jerseyville; a grandson, Leland Maupin of Golden, Co.; and a great granddaughter.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Louis Miller and George Miller.Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday.Rev. Rudy Elam will officiate.She will be laid to rest in the Noble Cemetery in Otterville.Memorials may be given to the Noble Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
