Karen J. Lohr, 72, of Godfrey, died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, June 10, 2018 in the Emergency Room at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton. She was born in Long Beach, CA on June 3, 1946 to Lorene (Essary) Sileven and the late Harold Sileven. She married Wesley Gene Lohr on February 20, 1965 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. He survives along with their children, Terry (Shelly) Lohr and Renee (Rob) Brown, four grandsons, Michael, Matthew, Mark and Noah Brown and a granddaughter, Kari Lohr. Also surviving are two sisters, Marilyn Sileven of Orlando, FL, and Teresa (Bob) Tripp of Godfrey. Karen attended Washington Grade School in East Alton, East Alton Junior High School, and three years at East Alton-Wood River High School, graduating from Alton Senior High in 1964. Besides raising her family, she lectured for Slim Talk and later for Weight Watchers. She was a teaching assistant at St. Francis School in Jerseyville for 2 years. After that she worked at Lohr Quarry as a rock crusher operator for 10 years until her MS condition worsened and forced her to retire. She and her husband lived in Brighton and Godfrey their entire married life. She was a member of the altar Society at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. She collected Elvis and Robert Wadlow memorabilia and enjoyed eating out with her W-R ’64 classmates. She was known for always drinking Diet Coke and eating coconut cream pie at Round Table and Joe K’s. She always liked to talk with other left handed people and had a knack for remembering friends’ names and birthdays. The family wishes to thank the ER staff at St. Anthony’s Hospital for all they did to help her and console the family. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2018 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton with Father Jason Stone as Celebrant. Burial will be at Godfrey Cemetery. Memorials may be made to SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church or School in Alton or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
