Karen Sue Hogue, 79, passed away at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 12, 1945 in Alton, the daughter of the late Henry Edward and Marcella (Grady) Glassmeyer.
Karen graduated from Alton High School class of 1963. She retired after 30 years as a school clerk and teacher’s aide from the Alton School District.
Karen was a loving, caring and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She genuinely cared for others, putting other people’s needs and wants before her own.
Her Christian faith was very important part of her life, believing in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. Karen was a lifelong Lutheran and a longtime member of Faith Lutheran Church in Godfrey, where she volunteered for many years teaching Sunday school, VBS and evening women’s guild.
Karen worked hard providing for her family, cooking, canning, sewing, she was an excellent homemaker. She was known for decorating for the holidays and making everyone’s favorite dishes. Karen was a joy to all who knew her.
On November 23, 1963 in Alton, she married Andrew “Andy” Hogue Jr., and he survives.
Also surviving are four children, Carla Hogue Engel of Belleville, Andrea Hogue Endicott (Jeffery) of Cottage Hills, Andrew John Hogue and Dawn Hogue. Seven grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren, one brother, Karl Glassmeyer and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 30, 2024 from 9 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Godfrey.
The burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery. Pastor Timothy Appel will officiate.
