Kara Lynn (Feeney) Smith, 59, of Granite City, Illinois, left this world on Friday, April 21, 2023. Kara was born on March 8, 1964, in Granite City, Illinois to parents, George and Mary Margaret (Tudy) (nee Williams) Feeney.

Kara Lynn was a nurse for 20 years, a profession she was very proud of.  She loved everything sports and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal and St. Louis Blues fan.  She was very proud of the fact that she was the first girl to play baseball in the Granite City Park District Program.  In her early adult years, she could often be found playing softball, soccer, volleyball, or pool.  Kara Lynn was a Trekkie!  She loved everything Star Trek, was curious about space and her most recent passion was Star Trek Picard.  She was also a history buff and shared her love of history with her son, Andrew.  Her all-time favorite TV series was Supernatural.  She always had a fascination for the occult.  Her greatest pride and joy were her children, Mariah and Andrew and her granddaughter Hadley Gude. 

Kara was preceded in death by her beloved grandparents Babe and Job Williams and her parents, George and Mary Margaret Feeney.

Survivors include her son, Andrew and Chloe (Compton) Feeney; daughter, Mariah (Brett Gude) Wampler; granddaughter, Hadley Gude; sister, Leigh Ann Pilcher; and brothers, Brent and Colin Feeney.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Sunset Hill Funeral Home, 50 Fountain Drive, Glen Carbon, Illinois. A Celebration of Life Service will take place immediately following the visitation at the funeral home.

Cremation has been accorded by Sunset Hill Cemetery & Cremation Services, Glen Carbon, Illinois.

Kara Lynn was blessed with a double lung transplant on September 2, 2021.  The family is forever grateful for the loving care the Lung Transplant Team (really more like family) showered on her.  It was Kara Lynn’s wish and passion for donations to be given to the Lung Transplant Patient Care Fund.
