Junior Douglas "Pete" Brown, 81, passed away 4:08 p.m., Monday, Juuly 10, 2017 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Born on September 5, 1935 in Chinquapin, NC, he was the son of William H. and Bertie (Hunter) Brown.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, he had been an independent truck driver before retiring.  He owned, "Pete's Lawn Service", was an avid gardener, affectionately known as, "The Squirrel Man" and showed a deep love for his family.

On May 2, 1964 in East St. Louis, he married Shirley Lombard.  She survives.

Surviving also are two sons, Doug Brown of North Carolina, Bob Brown of Missouri; three daughters, Glenda Miller and Sherry Caldwell of North Carolina, Theresa Brown of Bethalto; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sister, Grace Acock of North Carolina; and former son-in-law, Spencer Giles, whom he thought the world of.

His parents; three sisters and two brothers preceded in death.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Marks Mortuary in Wood River where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday.  Rev. Bob Smith will officiate.

Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.

Memorials may be made to the family in care of expenses.
