June Rice, 83, of Godfrey, passed away on December 16, 2012 with family at her side.
She was born June 20, 1929 in Wood River, IL. June was the daughter of Walter R. and Lucille (Horton) Stark.
She married Gene Rice of Roxana on May 9, 1952 in Wood River. Gene passed away on October 7, 2007.
A graduate of East Alton/Wood River High School, June began her career as an administrative assistant to the Vice President at Olin-Matheson. She also served as a secretary at her own First Presbyterian Church in Wood River. She worked at the Wood River Township tax collector’s office and later as a dietary assistant at Alton Memorial Hospital. In her retirement, June enjoyed volunteering with the Friends of the Wood River Library and on the Wood River Heritage Council. She was a member of United Presbyterian Church in Wood River.
June is survived by brothers Walter H. (Patte) Stark of Alton and James (Kathy) Stark of Mission Viejo, CA; a son, David (Leslie) Rice of Glen Carbon; a daughter, Susan Shobe of Godfrey; and three grandchildren, Mack Rice, Molly Rice and Sarah Shobe.
In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents.
Her remains will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at 10:30 am, Friday December 21 at United Presbyterian Church in Wood River, the Rev. Pam Laing presiding.
