Judith Lyons

Judith Kay Lyons, 79, died at 7:30 a.m., Sunday, March 15, 2020 at Alton Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Waverly, Illinois on July 27, 1940, and was the daughter of Nobel and Cecile (Hart) Richardson.She grew up in Waverly, and graduated from Waverly High School.   She married Francis Edgar Lyons on May 29, 1959 in  Jacksonville, Il., and for a few years made their home in Waverly, before moving to Jerseyville, when her husband was transferred with C.I.P.S.   They then raised their family in Jerseyville, and shared nearly 42 years of marriage prior to his death on April 3, 2001.She was a  member of the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville, and enjoyed her many friendships as a Red Hat Society member.   She had a creative flair, and for a short time worked in the fabric department at Wal-Mart inJerseyville, and taught ceramic classes out of her home.Surviving are her five children and their spouses, Douglas and Ellen Lyons of Carrollton, Daria and Larry Weigler of East Alton, Eric and Tammy Lyons of O'Fallon, Mo., Dr. Timothy Lyons and Cynthia Fessler of Jerseyville, and Megan and Doug Ball of Brighton; 14 Grandchildren; 19 Great Grandchildren; two sisters, Marilyn Staton ofNorthglenn, Colorado and Janet DeLong of Springfield; and a brother, Marvin Richardson of Colorado.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Staton; and two brothers, Joseph Richardson and Gary Richardson.The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, with COVID-19 mandates being followed.Although the Lyons family will not be present, those wishing to pay their respects, sign the register book, or leave a memorial in a more private setting, the funeral home will be open from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday to accommodate those wishing.Private funeral services will be held Friday at the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville, with Rev. Brent Meyer officiating.She will be laid to rest in the Waverly East Cemetery in Waverly, Illinois.Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville or to the American Cancer Society.Memories may be shared at crawfordfunerals.com.
