Juanita Armstrong Juanita Gail Armstrong, 80, died at 6:05 p.m., Saturday, July 16, 2016 at her residence surrounded by her family.She was born in Piasa, IL. on Sept. 5, 1935, one of three children born to Ira "Jack" and Mable Marie (Lyles) Shafer.Gail graduated in 1953 from Jersey Community High School,  and soon married Franklin Arthur "Cork" Armstrong on May 13, 1954 in Tacoma, Washington.  Together, they were one week shy of celebrating their 42 wedding anniversary, prior to his unexpected death on May 7, 1996.  They were the parents of five children and were well known proprietors of Cork & Gail's Lake Westside Tavern in Jerseyville for many years.Surviving are her five children & their spouses, Mitzi & Scott Groppel of Eldred, Marci & Mark Cerasi of Charles Town, WV., Dennis Armstrong of Jerseyville, Myrna Armstrong, and her partner, Claudia Norris of Kane, and Darren Armstrong ofJerseyville; four grandchildren, Danielle Grimsley and her husband, Damon of Port St. Lucie, Fl., Heath Groppel of Eldred, Ethan Armstrong of Jerseyville, and KiiraCerasi of Petaluma, Ca.; a great grandson, Ryder; three sisters-in-law and their spouses, Karen Shafer of Springfield; DeeDee & Jerry Harper of Davenport, Iowa; Georgia & Bob Erbst of New Boston, IL as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Shafer and Johnny Shafer.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the Crawford Funeral Home inJerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday.  Father William Hembrow will officiate.She will be laid to rest alongside her husband at the Oak Grove Cemetery inJerseyville.Memorials may be given to the Riverbend Area Humane Shelter in Jerseyville.
