Juan Lopez

Juan Martin Lopez, 88, died at 9:22 a.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at his home in Alton fortified with the sacraments of the Holy Church. Born March 6, 1928 in Williamsburg, MO, he was the son of Macario and Lydia (Hickman) Lopez. Mr. Lopez retired in 1983 as a tank foreman/bottle maker for Owens-Illinois Glass Company after over 30 years of service. He was a former member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church where he was active with the St. Matthew’s Men’s Club and later became a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. On November 8, 1950 he married the former Esperanza Espindola in Mexico City, Mexico. She survives. Also surviving is two daughters, Lupe (Frank) Licata of Bridgeton, MO, and Tonya Lagermann of Edwardsville, two sons, Martino Lopez of Brighton, and David (Evelyn) Lopez of Kansas City, MO, five grandchildren, Dominic, Daniel, Lisa, Lauren and Matthew, six great grandchildren, Luke, Reed, Anthony, Christopher, Mia, Ryan, one brother, Roberto Lopez and one sister, Alice (Bob) Vroman of Alton. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Diana Lopez, three brothers, Rito Lopez, Roberto “Bob” Lopez, and Rito Lopez. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, February 17, 2017 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
