Joyce Sabo, passed away at 7 pm on Saturday October 15, 2016, at her home with her family by her side.
She was born August 27, 1932, in West Frankfort, IL, the daughter of Floydand Barbara (Warsham)Bowman. She married Louis “Lou” Sabo on August 1, 1953 at St. Patrick’s Church in Alton and he preceded her in death on May 25, 2015.
Joyce was a consummate enjoyer of life and her family was the core of her world. Lou was a long time Commander at the American Legion and Joyce was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary.
Lou and Joyce enjoyed following the exploits of their children’s athletic adventures in their youth, were long time fans of live country music, and enjoyed every trip they took to Las Vegas. Joyce enjoyed league bowling at Bowl Haven and many will remember her from her tenure in the child care facility there; think “Dreamer” era.
She is survived by four children and their spouses, Lynn Sabo of Alton, Gregory and Theresa Sabo of College Station, TX, Mark and Anne Sabo of Alton, and Jay Sabo of Alton. Additionally, four grandchildren and their spouses, Meggan and Michael Schoen of Godfrey, Matthew Sabo of Texas, Gwen Sabo of Alton, and Ethan Sabo of Alton; two step-grandchildren, Haili Culp of Alton, and Alicia and Jason Simmons of Mobile, AL; one great-grandchild and his spouse, Sean and Erin Prather of Silverdale, WA.
In addition to her husband she is preceded in death by her Parents and six siblings Jack, Bill, Floyd, Neva, Betty, and Mozelle.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday October 19, 2016 at Staten Fine Funeral Home in Alton 5 to 8 p.m.
