Joyce Marie (Cherry) Schallenberg, 67, passed away at 8:59 p.m. on February 4, 2018 at OSF St. Anthony’s Healthcare in Alton, Illinois.She was born March 14, 1950 in Camden TN. She married George Schallenberg on June 7, 2013 in Edwardsville, IL, and he survives. George was the love of her life and Joyce only regretted that it took her 62 years to find him.Joyce worked in healthcare for many years; most of those years with BJC Home Care and at Alton Memorial Hospital. She loved being with and working with people. But she dearly loved her children and grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her father and mother: James Cherry and Florence (Terry) Cherry, by her stepmother Lola Cherry; by 2 brothers Robert Michael Cherry and Jerry Wayne Cherry; and by a stepson Kenneth Schallenberg.Surviving are a daughter Tonya (Marvin) Cox of Bethalto, IL, granddaughters Bailey and Shelby Hellemeyer of Rosewood Heights, and grandson Dakota Cox of Bethalto. Other step children surviving are Brenda Sachs of West Alton, MO., Todd Schallenberg of Alton, Erika (Ryan) Shipp of New Hampshire, Hannah Schallenberg of Alton. Grandchildren: Michelle (Alex) Sansevere of West Alton, MO., Danielle Sachs of West Alton, Mo., Tyler Schallenberg of St. Charles , MO.,  Jessica Schallenberg of West Alton, MO., Christian Schallenberg of West Alton, MO., Brayden Schallenberg of Alton, and Elijah, Hadley, and Olivia Shipp of New Hampshire; Joyce is also survived by a brother Danny (Starlla) Cherry of Brighton, IL. There are also many cousins, nieces, and nephews.Visitation will held Thursday, February 8, 2018 from 4 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m. at Elias, Kallal, and Schaaf Funeral Home in Alton.
