Joseph Eugene “Joe” Snyder, 75, of Glen Carbon, Illinois and formerly of Collegeville, Pennsylvania passed away at 2:17 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Evelyn’s House in Creve Coeur, Missouri. He was born December 3, 1944 in Athens, Ohio, a son of the late Eugene Benson and Dorothy (Gaskalla) Snyder. He married Lorraine A. “Lori” (Sell) Snyder on June 13, 1970 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and she survives. Joe began a 34 year career in refractory and engineering work back with Bethlehem Steel in 1970. He had worked as a ceramic engineer for various companies and ended this career as the Vice President of International Sales with Vesuvius Corporation in 2004. After this career, he served several years as a consultant. He proudly served his country with the United States Army Reserves. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Edwardsville and was a faithful 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1143 in Edwardsville. He was a volunteer with the U.S.O. at Lambert International Airport in St. Louis and enjoyed supporting the foreign graduate students at S.I.U.E. Joe enjoyed his many days of traveling and was a faithful and loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends. In addition to his beloved wife of 50 years, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Julie and James Voelker of Westchester, Pennsylvania and Leanne and Matthew Rakers of Glen Carbon; a son, Thomas Joseph Snyder of Glen Carbon; five grandchildren, Caroline Rakers, William Rakers, Anna Voelker, Emily Voelker and James Voelker; a sister, Rebecca “Becky” Korzec of Toledo, Ohio; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James “Jim” Snyder. In celebration of his life, a visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Edwardsville on Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Bob Jallas as celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville.
