Joseph Becker

Joseph Paul Becker, 89, died at 2:10 p.m., Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.He was born on the family farm in Jersey County on Dec. 2, 1923, the ninth of ten children born to the late Joseph & Nora (Goetten) Becker.Joe was a hard working and dedicated lifelong farmer, who had a quiet, but kind,presence.  He was a friend to all, and never had a harsh word to say about anyone or anything.  He was devout Catholic, and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fieldon, as well as a member of the cemetery board for many years.Surviving are a sister, Eleanor Kirbach of Carrollton; two sisters in law, Anna Becker of Jerseyville and Delores "Dode" Becker of Fishers, In., along with numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters & brothers in law, Hilda & Harry Wacker, Frances & Kenneth Rice and Dorothy Becker; five brothers & sisters in law, Jerome Becker, Edward Becker, Clarence Becker, Marcus & Opal Becker, Bernard & Helen Becker; a brother in law, Clarence Kirbach; and niece and her husband, Barbara & Adrian Hunter.Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville where a Rosary will be recited at 3:45 p.m..A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fieldon with Father William Hembrow officiating.Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Fieldon.Memorials may be given to the St. Mary's Cemetery or to Masses
