Joseph Kuhnline

Joseph H. Kuhnline, 88, passed away at 10:57AM on Monday, March 1, 2021, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Joseph was born on October 7, 1932, in Carrollton, IL, the son of Frank G Kuhnline and Thecla E (Grummel) Kuhnline.  He married Kathryn M. Troeckler on May 26, 1956 at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Mitchell, IL.  She survives.

Joseph proudly served in the Army during the Korean War.  He joined Owens IL as a bottlemaker and retired as Foreman after over 31 years.  Joseph was actively involved in the community as well as the Knights of Columbus Council #460, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus assembly #0203, VFW Post 1308, St. Matthew’s Catholic Church, Glass Bottle Blowers Association and Local #95.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Kathryn M Kuhnline of Alton; three children, Michael (Robin) Kuhnline of Brighton, IL, Karen (Ed) Skibinski of Brighton, IL, and  Mary Ann (Kit) Schafer Godfrey, IL;  eight grandchildren Courtney (Patrick) Sloan, Jacob (Shannon) Kuhnline, Becky (Brian) Sass, Drew (Crystal) Harlow, Aaron  Schafer, Daniel (Marisa) Schafer, Dan (Katie) Skibinski and Laura (Kevin) Guillette; 10 great-grandchildren, Claire, Simon, Sophia, Thomas, Jackson, Kaylee, Natalie, Mia, Claire and Gwen; a sister, Sister Mary Thecla and a sister-in-law, Sister Mary Raymunda, both of Springfield along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Sister Mary Josita, Barbara Rawe and Elizabeth Kuhnline; 2 brothers, Andrew Kuhnline and Francis Kuhnline.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing, occupancy, and mask wearing guidelines will be followed as mandated by the CDC. 

Visitation will be from 4 PM - 7PM on Friday, March 5, 2021 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey. 

Mass of Christian Burial will held 10 AM on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton.

Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.  Alton VFW Post 1308 will perform Military Rites.

Memorials may be made to Marquette Catholic High School or SS. Peter & Paul Masses.
