Joseph D. Cummings, 54, of Dow, died at 8:28 a.m., Tuesday, September 15, 2026, peacefully in his home.
He was born on September 27, 1971, in Jerseyville, the son of Robert L. and Judith (Wooster) Cummings.
Jody worked as a forklift operator and was happiest when he could be outside or working with his hands. He had a lifelong love for anything involving stock car racing and also enjoyed tractor pulling. Some of his favorite times were spent in the shop with his dad and brother John, tinkering with whatever project happened to be in front of them. Whether he was at the races, working in the shop or simply enjoying the outdoors, he appreciated the simple things in life. He also had a special place in his heart for his dog Scrappy, who was a constant companion.
He is survived by his parents, Bob and Freda Cummings of Dow and Judith Wooster-Dunfee of Texas; his siblings, Elmer Dale Daniels of Dow, Sherry Marshall (Mark Beatty) of Jerseyville, John (Patty) Cummings of Dow, Michelle Frank (Butch Cope) of Winchester and Michael McKenzie of Oregon; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as his best friend, Tara Scoggins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Frances Cummings, Elmer and Marie Thomas and Mr. and Mrs. Wooster.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Memorials may be given to the family to assist with the placement of a monument at Jody’s gravesite.
