Jonathan Alan Curry, 68, died at 6:00 a.m. Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Born February 7, 1947 in Danville, IL he was the son of Ralph D. and Marilyn (Etherton) Curry. Jon lived the majority of his childhood in Hoopeston, IL and went on to attend Sterling High School, Sterling, IL. He earned his B.S. in Education degree from ISU and his M.S. in Education degree from SIUE. He was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Jon was a lifelong Cubs fan and had a great love of reading, mainly history books. He was a teacher/school administrator in the Alton School District for 33 years, retiring in 2002. After retirement he was a substitute teacher through 2010. On August 21, 1971 he married the former Mary Kay Wright in Alton. She survives. Also surviving are three sons, Todd Curry stationed in Long Beach, CA, Samuel Curry (Debra) of Rhode Island, and Joel Curry (Cynthia) of Godfrey, six grandchildren, Abigail, Annaliese, Kathryn, Alannah, Austin and Hannah. Jon was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be sadly missed by his Aunt Joyce and Uncles, Michael and David, and numerous cousins. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday, January 25, 2016 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Father James Flach will officiate. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
