Johnnie Lappin

After a brief illness, surrounded by his loved ones Johnnie Lappin passed away on February 29, 2024. He was the son of Johnnie M Lappin Sr and Edna June (Garner) Lappin.

John was born in Sallisaw, Oklahoma on March 9, 1951. He shared fond memories of growing up in Maryland and New Mexico, where he enjoyed learning about different airplanes and working on motorcycles. He also enjoyed visiting with family in Sherwood, Tennessee. John graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1969. He worked 26 years at Alton Box Board as a truck driver and 5 years at Watkins Trucking, where he made many great memories and friends.  He always enjoyed spending time with his family and his pets.

On September 15, 2002 he married Shelia (Ingersoll) Lappin; she survives.  Also surviving are 2 daughters: Rachel Lappin of Alton and Kelly Lappin (Matthew Eberlin) of Vernon, CT; one step son Michael Abbott of Jerseyville;  3 granddaughters Maelin Abbott, Makala Lappin and Alexis Eberlin;  sisters: Marilyn (Don) Hughes, Kristen Elwood (Charles Reed); brother David Lappin; brother in law William “Bill” Carpenter; many nieces and nephews, special aunts, uncles and cousins.  He is preceded in death by his parents Johnnie and Edna June Lappin Sr. and a sister Karen Lappin Carpenter.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to time of services at 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.

Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.
